Impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on tourism and sustainability: continuation of research of selected places of the central Dalmatian islands of Hvar and Brač

Jelena Zlatar Gamberožić, PhD is the author of the paper “Impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on tourism and sustainability: continuation of research of selected places of the central Dalmatian islands of Hvar and Brač”. The paper is published in the Proceedings of the Colloquium “Islandness in the Contemporary Social Context – A View into the Future”, which was organized by the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts and the Department of Sociology of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Zagreb in February 2023.

The paper examines tourism in selected places on the islands of Brač (Povlja, Postira and Bol) and Hvar (the town of Hvar). The research is focused on different types of development in these settlements, from mass tourism through sustainable tourism to stagnation. The specificity of this research is the analysis of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic as an important factor on tourism in the previous years (2020 and 2021).
