The report titled “Looking for a Balance between School Playground and TikTok: Perspectives of Children and Youth on the Use of Digital Technologies” is published. The authors of the report are Boris Jokić, PhD, Zrinka Ristić Dedić, PhD and Jana Šimon.
The report is based on results of the Croatian Science Foundation project “Changes in the Organization of the Educational Process caused by the COVID-19 Pandemic: Effects on Educational Experiences, Well-being and Aspirations of Pupils in Croatia (EWAchange)“, and is dealing with the rarely presented perspectives of children and youth on the patterns of using digital technologies, and the influence of digital technologies on the lives of youth, the society and the economy. Particular emphasis was put on the analysis of the correlation between the frequency of using digital devices and the well-being of children and youth.
This comprehensive national research was carried out between May and August 2022. It included a total of 17,472 pupils (5th and 7th grades of primary, and 3rd grade of secondary schools), and 3,634 teachers from 165 schools in Croatia, making it one of the largest in this part of Europe.
The presented results point to numerous challenges and opportunities that digital technologies bring to the lives of children and youth, while calling for a broad social debate and a complex reaction of parents, children, the educational system, public policy and economy.
The results are available in the Report. (in Croatian)
