Published: 05.03.2025.

At the meeting held on March 3 2025 in the Institute for Social Research in Zagreb, the Section for Spatial Sociology of the Croatian Sociological Association (CSA), founded in 2009, once again began with its activities. Anđelina Svirčić Gotovac, PhD was unanymously appointed Leader of the Section, while Assistant Anamaria Klasić was appointed the Section Secretary.

At the meeting, the first activities were agreed upon, including the creation of a mailing-list, the organization of a meeting within the annual CSA conference, and the submission of a panel that would tackle the topic of space at the same conference.

The Section members also discussed the 'Gospić is our home' initiative, and expressed their cordial support to this initiative that tackles the problem of import of medical and plastic waste into the neighbouring area of Gospić. The Section members agreed that this is a serious spatial and ecological issue for this town and other threatened areas in the Republic of Croatia, and that it requires an interdisciplinary approach and further reactions in order to prevent and stop further disposal of waste in the threatened and natural areas.

In the future, the Section will be working on the enhancement of its visibility by organizing forums and round-table discussions, and by strengthening collaboration with relevant institutions and experts. The next meeting is planned to take place at the annual CSA conference in May, and all the interested members are invited to join the the Section's activities.
