Jelena Zlatar Gamberožić presented the project “Impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on tourism: Examples of selected mid-Dalmatian islands of Hvar and Brač“ in Povlja on the island of Brač on 17 June 2023 in the Povlja Gallery.
The research encompassed opinions of interlocutors on various topics related to the situation in tourism and its potential development, and especially related to the influence of the COVID-19 pandemic. The aspects (thematic units) that were analysed are the economic, social, ecological and cultural dimension of sustainability and the influence and consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic on tourism.
The city of Hvar experienced the return to the situation in tourism before the pandemic and further development of mass tourism. On the island of Brač the situation is different in each particular place. Povlja still suffer from stagnation, with an emphasis on developing the ecological and social dimension of sustainability, Postira are turning to the mass type of tourism due to the building of the new hotel, while in Bol changes are present due to the pandemic in the sense of opening of new types of tourist objects, and also registering of first family-run farms. The consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic did not appear to be present in the long term, nor affecting the already existing types of tourism development in these places.
