Nikola Petrović, PhD, Josip Bilić and Filip Fila presented the study titled “Possibilities of Geopolitical Cleft in the Croatian Society“ at the Croatian Political Science Talks 2022. In the presentation, the authors posed the question of the possible impact of the invasion of Ukraine on the relation of Croatian political elites and citizens towards the West. They attempted to answer this question by the analysis of political programmes of key Croatian political parties, semi-structured in-depth interviews with Croatian politicians, and a questionnaire survey conducted in October and November 2021. The authors concluded that the Russian invasion of Ukraine brought the strengthening of the Western betrayal narrative among Eurosceptic political actors, i.e. the critique of the way the West behaved during the Homeland War, pointing to similarities with Central European Eurosceptic governments.
