Iva Odak, PhD and Saša Puzić, PhD participated in the BSA Bourdieu Study Group Mid Term International Conference titled “Education and Social Inequalities: Between Reproduction and Change“. The conference was held in Barcelona, from 5 till 7 July 2023.

Iva Odak, PhD and Saša Puzić, PhD held the presentation “Vulnerable groups in higher education in Croatia: insights from students’ experiences“ in which they presented results of the study experience of vulnerable social groups, such as immigrants and asylum seekers, Roma students, LGBTQ+ students, students from the alternative care system, female students in the technical field, male students in the humanities, and students who are children of Croatian Homeland War veterans. The focus of this paper is on gaining a deeper insight into the student experience in order to identify relevant obstacles that arise from belonging to a vulnerable group. Although a significant part of the challenges for certain groups is of a financial nature, many obstacles faced by students from these groups are still beyond the focus of institutional procedures and practices, which includes difficult access and/ or lack of institutional assistance.
