Field research within the Slovenian Research Agency (SRA) and Croatian Science Foundation (CSF) project ISOLATION
Published: 21.07.2023.
Katarina Polajnar Horvat (Anton Melik Geographical Institute of the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts) and Lana Peternel (Institute for Social Research in Zagreb) were conducting field research in the westernmost part of Slovenia, in the Municipality of Kobarid from 14 till 21 July 2023.
The ethnographic research was carried out on both sides of the Slovenian-Italian border, in the villages of Robidišče in Slovenia, and Črni Vrh (Montefosca) and Prosnid (Prossenicco) in Friuli within the Slovenian-Croatian bilateral project of the Slovenian Research Agency (SRA) and the Croatian Science Foundation (CSF) ‘Isolated People and Communities in Slovenia and Croatia – ISOLATION’ (IPS 2022-02-3741).
The research consists of the documenting of everyday life of the sparse population of isolated mountain villages during the tourist season.
The village of Robidišče was for various reasons, among others, due to an earthquake in the 1970s, abandoned for decades. However, today it is an example of revitalization and a new way of better-quality life.
