Field research on the tri-border area between Slovenia, Hungary and Austria conducted within the SRA-CSF project ISOLATION

As part of the Slovenian-Croatian bilateral project of the Slovenian Research Agency (SRA) and the Croatian Science Foundation (CSF) ‘Isolated People and Communities in Slovenia and Croatia – ISOLATION’ (IPS 2022-02-3741) field research was conducted in the North-Western part of Slovenia, in the Goričko Region.
Miha Kozorog (Faculty of Arts of the University of Ljubljana and the Scientific Research Center of the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts - ZRC SAZU), Nikolina Hazdovac Bajić and Lana Peternel (Institute for Social Research in Zagreb), and guest researcher Jaro Stacul, PhD (Memorial University of Newfoundland) conducted an ethnographic research on the tri-border area between Slovenia, Hungary and Austria, particularly in settlements near the Slovenian and Hungarian border (Gornji Petrovci, Čepinci, Hodoš, Šalovci, Monošter etc.). The field research was taking place from 28 till 31 August 2023.
The research included a visit to museums, documentation centres and local collections displaying and exploring military practices of keeping the Hungarian and Slovenian border during the Cold War, and presenting the daily life of the people living near the Iron Curtain.
