A report on the use of mobile phones in Croatian primary schools published
Published: 21.09.2023.
The Institute’s team consisting of Boris Jokić, PhD, Zrinka Ristić Dedić, PhD and Jana Šimon published a report on the use of mobile phones in Croatian primary schools, titled “ZABRANE? - Korištenje mobitela u osnovnim školama Republike Hrvatske iz učiteljske i učeničke perspektive“.
The report brings an analysis of teachers’ and pupils’ attitudes on the possibility of banning the use of mobile phones in primary schools. It is based on the results of a comprehensive research conducted in May and June 2022 on a sample of 1,705 teachers, 3,706 fifth grade pupils, and 3,866 seventh grade pupils from 84 primary schools in the Republic of Croatia.
The results, from the perspective of teachers, dominantly argue for restrictions in the use of mobile phones in Croatian schools. From the pupils’ perspective, they point to different viewpoints among pupils belonging to different generations, whereby a significant part of the pupils advocates for the ban.
The results presented in the Report are based on the data collected as part of the scientific research project “Changes in the Organization of the Educational Process caused by the COVID-19 Pandemic: Effects on Educational Experiences, Well-being and Aspirations of Pupils in Croatia“, financed by the Croatian Science Foundation.
The Report is available at the following link.
